We are all watching ourselves.

Week 4 Recap

Wow! Nearly done the first month! It went so quickly, yet so slowly. I feel I've learned so much without learning anything. I feel so creative, but so stripped of ideas. So stressed, yet so free.

Paradoxes aside, I barely made it through the week. In the case of Day 24, I guess I didn't. I'm sorry. Here are some extra photos to make you feel better.

Day 28

A shot containing my two favourite subjects.

Day 27

Music is what I do when not taking pictures.

Day 26

Ahh, the sunset.

Terror And Hubris In The House Of Eric Dand

Wow, what a week. I'm two days before the scheduled "recap" date, but I'm not entirely sure my internet will hold in there until Wednesday, so I've got to do this now. If I still have internet then, you will have your recap pictures on Wednesday. Do not worry that this post forgoes the recap, it is still coming.

I regret to inform you, dear reader, that I have failed you. I did not take a picture on the 24th. It totally slipped my mind until it was 11PM and I was half-asleep on a friend's couch, lazily watching the Dark Knight for the umpteenth time after being inspired to do so by having watched Brandon Hardesty's re-enactment of the infamous pencil scene ("and... *thud* it's gone!"). This week's been rather confusing at times, and -- as Ferris Bueller said -- Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

On the 22nd and 23rd, I took both my pictures with Emily's camera. This would be all fine and good, even if she sent me the pictures I took late, I could just fake the timestamps and confuse the lot of you into thinking I did it on time. However, my internet and email broke sometime within the vicinity of the 23th, and it's taken four days and eight phone calls to my ISP to get it back. My email is still broken, and "should" be working by the 28th. Meaning it may break my internet again tomorrow. You never know.

Anyways, I have two wonderful pictures for days 25 and 26. Both will be posted shortly, with fake timestamps so that they appear in their proper order so that those of you who don't read what I write and just skim the pictures don't get confused. I hope you enjoy them, and wish me luck in not missing pictures, and having a consistent connection.

PS
Ten points to those of you who can name where the title of this post comes from. Use the comments. Jesse, I'm lookin' at you. You should know.

Day 25

Although I may have wasted two-hundred-some-odd-pictures (standing out in the middle of the park in the heavy rainstorm in my trenchcoat and an umbrella with a really cool wooden handle, camera on a tripod, whirling around at every flash, cussing out my ears at every missed shot; I'm pretty sure my neighbours think I'm insane) trying unsuccessfully to capture the lightning of the great storm on the 25th, I snapped this one right afterwards. I like it.

Day 23

Credit for this photo goes to Emily, but I liked this one way more than anything I took that day.

Day 22

Yawn.

Week 3 Recap

Well, this week was a busy week. I almost didn't get a shot some days, while other days (like Day 20, with the duck) just walked into my lap and sat there and danced for a while until I was satisfied.

Not too many extras this week, I have barely been organizing my photos except the official of-the-day pictures. My latest picture (Day 22) is still sitting in Emily's camera, so expect that one late with a fudged timestamp on it to make it look like I posted it on time.

Things that helped -- or, rather, didn't help -- me get my photos taken this week: Slaughter-House Five, Team Fortress 2, my harmonica, TANG, Giant Bomb (apply directly to the forehead), Oblivion, Strawberries, Treen's parties, chocolate, the nonexistant Ridge Poetry Slam, the Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, and Canada Post.

An alternative, black-and-white picture.
The duck hid under the car, then I had to chase him out. Then he got terrified and hid in my bushes. I left him there to calm down and that was the last I saw of him. Or her. It actually looked more like a female, what with the brown feathers and lack of a green head.
Awe.
Awesome apron, I think so.

Treen is a master of over-preparation, and I think this strawberry is a testament to that.

By now, you should all know I love pictures at sunset. Specifically of sunsets. It's a thing.

Day 21

Green is the broadest colour of the spectrum.

Pools go green quickly.

Day 16

There's also a black & white version of this photo, but I really couldn't choose. Watch for it in the week's recap.

Day 15

A last-minute HDR picture. There's a sprinkler going in the picture, but you could never tell.

Week 2 Recap

Well, lots of things have happened. I learned many things about photography, and a few about myself. I also went to see the Victoria Ska Festival, and almost didn't get a picture-of-the-day one day, but I prevailed! I have not yet missed one day. I haven't taken a picture for today yet, but that's beside the point.

If you are going to take a panoramic shot, take pictures that start pretty much where the last one ended. Things are smaller at the centre of pictures, and larger at the edges. Otherwise, you'll end up with pictures looking like my two panoramas for this week: obviously photoshopped.

Things that helped this week's photos: Ernest Hemmingway, Bach, The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, the green-haired crowd-surfing stoner kid in the mosh pit at the Ska Festival, fake Ray-Bans, Emily, Emily's camera, Emily's enthusiasm for photography and my photos in particular, Greg DeStefano's photos, Rubik's Cubes, my grandpa, and last-but-not-least, retro video games.

I solved it, guys! Not really, I got about two sides, but this picture fakes it.
An alternative, black-and-white panorama. I ditched it because although I like it better, everyone else told me that the colour one was better.
A photo that almost made it as Day 9.
People watching the Ska Festival for free from the rigging of a ship in Victoria's harbour.
A brighter Day 13 picture. It's a fourty-eight-second exposure.
Happy Canada Day, two weeks late!

Day 14

Day 14
Another big panorama shot. This one's a full 360 degrees. Sadly, Blogger doesn't like me today, so this one's been published to my Flickr page and linked here.

Day 13

Something eerie for a thirteenth day.

Monday, July 13, 2009

Day 12

Strawberries have some of the most interesting insides.

Sunday, July 12, 2009

Day 11

A panoramic shot off the port side of the ferry.
Be absolutely sure to see it enlarged; it's a big picture.

Saturday, July 11, 2009

Day 10

The Blue Fox Café is the best place for breakfast in Victoria.

Day 9

I like the detail visible on the ice cubes and the lemon wedge.

Week 1 Recap

Well, for the first week, I sure am proud of myself. I've decided that I'm only going to talk and explain shots and generally interact with anybody who cares to read the blog at the end of the week. As I began on a Wednesday, Wednesday is the day you all get to learn about shot composition, photography meathooks, my personal financial problems, and anything I think relevant, or irrelevant yet still interesting.

Also, the most fun part, you get to see some of the pictures that I want to show that didn't quite make picture-of-the-day but I still think some of you may enjoy. Without further ado, let us begin.
Note: the pictures posted in the recap are not hosted on Blogger because I have a one-Gigabyte limit on my total uploads, and, frankly, most of the pictures aren't worth posting up in full-resolution. Instead, I'll be putting them up on Photobucket. So, you get to see them in a maximum resolution of 800 by 600.

An alternative Day 1 picture.

Dogs are man's best friend, even when they run off into your front yard to pee on stuff and you have to carry them back.

Photobucket
Isn't she cute?

Photobucket
I love lens flare.

Photobucket
No matter what she tells you, math 10 is hard. This photo's proof.

Photobucket
I'm starting to feel that these recaps are mostly going to be at least 50% pictures of Emily. Fun fact: this photo is 100% pants-free!
Photobucket
I couldn't choose between this one and the other waterfall picture.

Photobucket
The river is a beautiful place. There's no denying that.

Day 7

Help me, I'm stuck!

Day 6

Cloudy day.
